February 10, 2009

The Full Story

Jamaica will host the Fifteenth International Bauxite and Alumina Seminar, at the Ritz Carlton Hotel, in Montego Bay, St. James, from February 11 to 13.
This high level meeting is considered a premier business event on the international mining agenda.
Prime Minister Bruce Golding is expected to address the meeting, as well as the Minister of State in the Ministry of Mining and Telecommunications, Laurence Broderick.
Some 300 top executives from bauxite and mining operations worldwide are expected to attend the three-day seminar. These will include persons in mining and refinery, from both the metallurgical and non-metallurgical industries, ranging from traders to financiers, shippers and technology entities.
The Metal Bulletin website, which is promoting the meeting, has described Jamaica “as ideally located between the consuming markets of North America and the growing supply base of Latin America, for buyers or sellers of bauxite alumina.”
At the seminar, experts are expected to discuss key industry issues related to markets, supply and demand, as well as product quality and energy demands of the sector.
