The Full Story

Jamaica recorded five new imported cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday (June 17). This brings the total number of confirmed cases for the island to 626.

At the same time, two more patients have recovered and have been released from care, bringing that total to 451. The island’s recovery rate now stands at 72%.

The new cases are a 56-year-old male of a St. Catherine address, a 21-year-old female and a 37-year-old female both of Kingston & Saint Andrew addresses, a 37-year-old male of a Clarendon address and a 56-year-old female of a Westmoreland address. All five cases arrived recently on flights from the USA.

Jamaica now has 125 imported cases; 219 cases are contacts of confirmed cases; 39 local transmission cases not epidemiologically-linked; 236 related to the workplace cluster in St. Catherine and 7 under investigation.

Some 361(58%) of all confirmed cases are females and 265 (42%) are males with the ages ranging from two months to 87 years.

One critically ill patient and one moderately ill patient are among the 165 (26.4%) active cases currently under observation.

In the last 24 hours, 516 new samples were tested bringing the total number of samples tested to 17, 463. There are 48 samples pending and the overall number of samples that tested negative is 16,789.
