Postal operators across Caribbean Community (CARICOM) member states are set to benefit from a three-day comprehensive training event aimed at bolstering efficiency and innovation within the region’s postal sector.

The event, which features two workshops slated for May 21 to 23 in Kingston, will be held by the Post and Telecommunications Department (Jamaica Post) in collaboration with the Universal Postal Union (UPU) International Bureau.

Postmaster General of Jamaica Post, Lincoln Allen, welcomes the training and is excited about the partnership with the UPU.

This, as the UPU is the primary forum for cooperation between postal administrations worldwide, promoting consistency and up-to-date services globally.

“The training workshops are aptly timed, as Jamaica Post is currently undergoing a series of transformational upgrades that are geared at improving operational efficiencies and the total customer experience,” Mr. Allen told JIS News.

He noted that Jamaica Post is anticipating fruitful discussions with industry partners and experts that will result in improved operational efficiency and service delivery.

This aligns with its mandate to modernise, innovate and transform Jamaica’s postal service to ensure sustained viability.

Meanwhile, UPU Coordinator for Asia Pacific and South-South Cooperation, Thakur Subhash Sinha, said the training will include bilateral meetings to review individual circumstances and share best practices within the sector.

Additionally, the workshops will explore IT tools for electronic advance data (EAD) implementation and monitoring, and address vital issues in enhancing regional transport networks and the creation of a Think Tank team.

“The regional transport workshop will bring together transport experts, heads of restricted unions, selected carriers and institutional partners. Discussions will cover key issues such as the transition to paper-free transport and the establishment of regional transport hubs,” the coordinator said.

Participants can also expect to gain valuable insights into regional postal performance and the link between EAD and postal security functions.

The workshops are being funded by the United States Postal Service.
