Postal operators from across the Caribbean have convened in Kingston for the much-anticipated Electronic Advance Data (EAD) and Regional Transport Workshops.
Hosted by the Post and Telecommunications Department (Jamaica Post), in collaboration with the Universal Postal Union (UPU) International Bureau (IB), the workshops bring together Postmasters-General, Directors of Post, and delegates across Caribbean Community (CARICOM) member and associate states for intensive training and knowledge sharing from May 21 to 23.
The participants are expected to benefit significantly from the event’s comprehensive agenda over the three days.
Speaking at Tuesday’s (May 21) opening ceremony at the ROK Hotel, downtown Kingston, Postmaster-General and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Jamaica Post, Lincoln Allen, said he is optimistic about the outcomes of the workshops in enhancing the entity’s journey towards modernisation and excellence in service delivery.
“We look forward to the tutelage, brainstorming and critical discussions that will take place over the next three days. The improved operational processes, networking opportunities forged in the areas of transportation and logistics, as well as other solutions,… will equip the Caribbean region with the tools to compete in a rapidly growing and expanding global logistics space,” he noted.
Mr. Allen said Jamaica Post remains committed to advancing the local postal sector through strategic partnerships and investments in human capital and is anticipating improved operational processes and strengthening of partnerships across the region coming out of the workshops.
Supply Chain Coordinator of the UPU IB, Jan Bojnansky, in his remarks, committed the organisation’s support to improving postal operations within the Caribbean.
“The UPU is working closely with other stakeholders to increase transport capacities and meet e-commerce needs. The focus is on using multimodal transport solutions and involving wider postal-sector players. We need to be prepared to shift from our traditional transportation methods to a more dynamic routing plan,” Mr. Bojnansky said.
The workshops, which are being held concurrently, are being funded by the United States Postal Service.
