Jamaica has Rewritten Olympics History… says PM Golding

Prime Minister Bruce Golding today lauded Jamaica’s members of the 4×100 relay team for their historic performance shown in winning the gold medal and establishing their dominance over Track and field sprints, with a new world record in the Beijing Olympics.
The Jamaican quartet of Nesta Carter, Michael Frater, Usain Bolt and Asafa Powell, this morning stunned the capacity crowd in Beijing, China, with smooth baton exchanges and powerful sprinting. A new world record was set by stopping the clock at 37.10 seconds, eclipsing the previous record set of 37.40 by the USA in 1992.
Mr. Golding said that the quartet showed the true meaning of confidence, determination and focus in capturing this elusive race. ‘Jamaicans should take from this, a lesson to never give up as we are destined for great things and our success at Beijing China, is just the start, Mr. Golding said.
He reminded all Jamaicans that although it was a disappointing end for the sprint queens, we as a people should show love and compassion to the female runners who although they did not manage to medal in the finals, they put out their best effort in representing their country proudly. He noted that smiles were still seen by the sprint queens even after their race, and that is an indication that nothing can take away this feeling of accomplishment that we and the Caribbean have experienced in the Olympic games.
Prime Minister Bruce Golding urged all Jamaicans to stand up and celebrate this monumentous achievement, both individually and as a unified team. “We as Jamaicans should always strive to be a team and to continue to embrace our motto “Out of many, One People”, the Prime Minister said.
