Jamaica recently sent a delegation to Cuba on an exploratory/preparatory visit with that country’s Ministry of the Interior as part of the government’s effort to increase collaboration and cooperation in the fight against the illicit drug trade and other forms of transnational organized crime.
The Jamaica delegation was headed by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of National Security, Mrs. Dianne McIntosh.
Minister with responsibility for Information, Daryl Vaz who made the disclosure at yesterday’s (Jan 19) post cabinet press briefing, said that the visit was in keeping with the goal of the National Security Policy to reduce violent crime. He said it was also part of government’s effort to dismantle organized criminal networks through strengthening bilateral and multilateral relationships.
