The Full Story

The Jamaica Association of Health Education and Promotion (JAHEP) will be observing its second annual Health Education Week from October 20 to 25.

The week, under the theme ‘Advancing Community Health Through Health Education and Promotion’, will include activities to promote JAHEP to the wider Jamaica.

“We want to use this week to highlight JAHEP as a growing professional group that is young but developing and to highlight what we do,” said the Association’s President, Carlene Douglas.

She was speaking at a recent Think Tank held at the JIS head office in Kingston.

The major activities for the week will be a church service on Sunday (October 20) at the Holiness Born Again Church of Jesus Christ Apostolic, in Heartease, Manchester, and on Wednesday (October 23) the Association will host a webinar on Behavioural Insights and Nurturing Your Mental Health.

JAHEP marked its first Health Education Week in 2023 following a proclamation by Governor General, His Excellency the Most Hon. Sir Patrick Allen.

“It was our first celebration and it was very good. You know that when you just start, you’re a baby taking baby steps, so this year we are also celebrating the week, which is observed the third week in October,” she said.

JAHEP began in 1998 with a mandate to advocate for health promotion professionals through capacity-building and research and to tend to the welfare of its members. The group focuses on health promotion and empowering persons to maintain good health. It also develops relationships and establishes links with organisations that promote health.
