Isaac is moving towards the west northwest at 13 km/h. A general northwestward motion at a slower forward speed is expected today and tonight, followed by a turn toward the north-northwest by Thursday night or early Friday. On the forecast track, the centre of Hurricane Isaac will move over Louisiana today and tomorrow and over southern Arkansas early Friday.
Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 130 km/h, with higher gusts. Isaac is a Category one hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale. Weakening is forecast as Isaac moves over land during the next 48 hours.
Tropical Storm Kirk Developed Last Night
At 4:00 a.m. the centre of Tropical Storm Kirk was located near Latitude 24.3 degrees North and Longitude 45.3 degrees West or about 1,965 kilometres east-northeast of the northern Lesser Antilles.
Tropical Storm Kirk is moving towards the west-northwest near 15 km/h. A turn to the northwest is expected during the next couple of days.
Maximum sustained winds are near 75 km/h, with higher gusts. Some strengthening is forecast during the next 48 hours.
Neither Hurricane Isaac nor Tropical Storm Kirk is a threat to Jamaica.
