The Jamaica Teaching Council (JTC) in partnership with the Ministry of Education and Youth, will stage the third Forum for Innovations in Teaching (FIT3) from January 25 to 27 at the National Arena in Kingston.
Under the theme ‘Celebrating Achievements and Reimaging Education for the 21st Century Society and Labour Force’, the forum will be used to demonstrate the integration of education, medium, small and micro enterprises and the information and communications technology (ICT) sectors within the context of the digital transformation journey in Jamaica.
Executive Director of the JTC, Dr. Winsome Gordon, said Jamaica has made significant progress in the digital space, and FIT3 will showcase what has been achieved and the direction for the future.
It will also highlight how technology can be used to support education.
“New technologies have opened a vast array of opportunities in teaching and learning, enabling teachers to serve better the call for diversified teaching and equity in the education system. FIT3 will offer space to traditional and non-traditional partners to expose their support to teachers and the education industry,” she pointed out.
Dr. Gordon said the three-day event will also serve to celebrate the achievements in education since Independence; reimagine education in the 21st century; pay tribute to teachers as the bedrock of sustainable societal advancement; and will be used to launch the Digital Transitioning Programme for Jamaica (Digital Jamaica), which is a European Union (EU)-funded initiative.
Exhibits and booths will be mounted by partners in education, to include community colleges, schools, the HEART/NSTA Trust, agencies of the Ministry of Education and Youth, specialised colleges, and teacher-training institutions.
Representatives from the Ministry of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport; the tourism, business and manufacturing sectors; and implementing ministries/agencies of Digital Jamaica are also scheduled to participate.
Portfolio Minister, Hon. Fayval Williams will deliver the official welcome at the opening ceremony on Thursday, January 25, beginning at 3:00 p.m.
Plenary sessions focused on various topics will be held throughout the second and third days.
Each day’s activities will end with a concert, with a tribute to teachers to highlight activities on the final day.
The Forum for Innovations in Teaching is being held under the patronage of the Governor-General, His Excellency, the Most Hon. Sir Patrick Allen.
