Several infrastructure improvement projects are on the way for the parish of Westmoreland.
Prime Minister, Dr. the Most Hon. Andrew Holness, in making the disclosure during a visit to the parish on Friday (January 24), said he will provide details of the works to be done in his upcoming Budget presentation.
“The parish of Westmoreland needs specific attention as it relates to infrastructure – roads and water and in terms of health facilities. I am aware that the Savanna-la-Mar Public General Hospital is overburdened currently. So, in my Budget presentation, I will be saying a few things about how we plan to address the issues,” he said.
Highlighting the parish’s assets, Dr. Holness said the intention is to create an economic plan for Westmoreland that not only addresses the infrastructure needs but also provides jobs and income for young people.
“We see the natural beauty of the coastline of the parish, the town of Negril and the special tourism product that it offers. That needs some special attention, some refreshing and rebranding in addition to agriculture,” he pointed out.
“So, we are going to… ensure that the people of Westmoreland finally get the attention they deserve, both in terms of their infrastructure and in terms of their economy,” Dr. Holness noted.
