The Jamaica National Flag was first hoisted on Independence Day, August 6, 1962.

Design and Colours

The flag has a diagonal cross or ‘saltire’ with four triangles in juxtaposition. The flag’s diagonal cross is gold; the top and bottom triangles are green; and the hoist and fly (side) triangles are black.

“The sun shineth; the land is green; and the people are strong and creative” is the symbolism of the Jamaican National Flag.
BLACK stands for the strength and creativity of the people.
GOLD represents the natural wealth of the country and the beauty of the sunlight.
GREEN signifies hope and agricultural resources.
