GOJ Public Investment Programme – Buses and Garbage Trucks

The Government of Jamaica (GOJ) is investing over J$1 trillion in the country’s infrastructure, marking its largest expansion effort to date. This investment will be made over the next five years and will include the purchase of buses and garbage trucks, which is expected to significantly enhance public services.
Buses
For the 2024/2025 fiscal year, J$2.6 billion has been allocated to acquire 100 new buses for the start of the school year, to improve the commuting experience for the public.
Garbage Trucks
An allocation of J$916 million has been made to purchase 50 compactor trucks in the 2024/2025 fiscal year. Garbage collection will be improved with this acquisition as more than a million tonnes of solid waste are produced locally each year.
