The Full Story

The 8th Biennial Jamaica Diaspora Conference, hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade (MFAFT), will take place on June 16 – 20, 2019 at the Jamaica Conference Centre in downtown Kingston.

Conference Objectives
Themed ‘Jamaica and the Diaspora: Building Pathways for Sustainable Development’, the main objectives of the Conference are to:
1. Finalise and endorse the draft National Diaspora Policy for presentation to Cabinet
2. Report on the outcomes from the Jamaica 55 Diaspora Conference
3. Examine global trends and events in diaspora host countries and the inherent issues, challenges, and opportunities which will significantly impact the diaspora
4. Establish specific actionable outcomes, including matters which the diaspora will wish to endorse for implementation after the Conference

The Conference will also see a Youth Forum that will engage young Jamaicans in a bid to deepen connections and nurture their involvement in the nation’s affairs.

Conference Features
Signature features of the Conference will include the Marketplace – an exposition of Jamaican goods and services; Government at Your Service – a fast-tracked one-stop shop exclusively at the Conference; and an array of hospitality and cultural activities.

The Diaspora Day of Service, which will cap the activities, will encourage Jamaican organisations and individuals to organise themselves to volunteer their time, skills, and resources to community projects of their choosing, anywhere in the island.

To register and make payments for the Conference, visit www.eventbrite.com (search for ‘Diaspora Conference’). Payments may also be made at MFAFT for Jamaican residents, or at Jamaican High Commissions, Consulates, and Embassies for residents of the United Kingdom and North America.
