The Statistical Institute of Jamaica (STATIN) will observe CARICOM Statistics Day on Wednesday, October 15, with a symposium under the theme: ‘Youth, Age 15-24 – A Situational Analysis’.

To be held at the Mona Visitors Lodge at the University of the West Indies, the symposium will provide a profile of youth within the 15-24 age group with special focus on employment, education, fertility and crime.

The symposium will begin at 9:00 a.m. and the Minister of Youth and Culture, Hon. Lisa Hanna, will deliver the keynote address.

CARICOM Statistics Day is aimed at recognizing the vital role of statistics in improving the daily lives of the people of the Caribbean Community; and raising the profile of statistics and statisticians across the region.

This year will mark the 6th observance of CARICOM Statistics Day and will surround a regional theme: ‘Data Revolution for Sustainable Development of CARICOM – Designing and Operationalising a Framework for Statistics in the Post 2015 Development Agenda’.
