The Full Story

The Government is looking to develop suitable housing solutions for persons with special needs.

Minister without Portfolio in the Ministry of Economic Growth and Job Creation, Hon. Dr. Horace Chang, speaking at a press conference at the Ministry’s offices on July 6, said an appropriate number of houses for disabled persons must be included in housing developments.

“There are many people who have physical disabilities and can’t find appropriate housing. We have to begin to recognise this. For example, if you are developing a scheme in Kingston, you have to have one or two that have access for wheelchairs and other essential amenities that a person with a physical disability may require,” the Minister said.

Dr. Chang pointed out that these housing solutions will be achieved through the encouragement of preferential credit facilities for such persons, including tax breaks.
