The Full Story

The Ministry of Transport, Works and Housing will be working through the Housing Agency of Jamaica to achieve its target of distributing some 5,000 registered titles to land owners during this financial year.

Delivering a special address on Friday, August 16, at a ceremony for the presentation of titles for the Barrett Hall Housing development in Rose Hall, St. James, Minister without Portfolio, in the Ministry of Transport, Works and Housing, Hon. Dr. Morais Guy reiterated that for too long many Jamaicans have been occupying lands that they do not own.

He said the time has come for these citizens to “demonstrate that you are true Jamaicans, and no longer second class citizens in your country…with this title you …own a piece of this rock known as Jamaica”.

The Minister advised prospective land owners however to ensure that they use their titles wisely in developing themselves and their families and by extension, their communities and the country.

“Unlock that capital to send your children to school, to make additions to your homes, to invest in a business, in yourselves and in the development of your families and when you do that, you will be helping to grow the Gross Domestic Product of your country, thus making it more productive,” Minister Guy advised.

Member of Parliament for the East Central St. James, Edmund Bartlett, in his remarks, called on the citizens to organize themselves into a strong community.

Twenty-nine persons were presented with their registered titles.
