The Full Story

Prime Minister, the Most Hon. Andrew Holness, says the ‘Best New Caribbean Hotel’ award won by the Government-owned Melia Braco Village, in Trelawny, is another feather in the cap of brand Jamaica.

Addressing the post-award ceremony of the 2016 World Travel Awards at the hotel on September 18, Mr. Holness said he was not surprised that the hotel had capped the award, as he had personally experienced the quality and service first-hand.

“I was here a few weeks ago with my wife and two boys and it was an incredible experience. It is an amazing facility which is staffed by an even more amazing people,” he added.

The Prime Minister pointed out that the service he received was astonishingly great, while the spirit and morale were above par. “It was just incomparable and I have been to a lot of other places,” he noted.

For his part, General Manager of the hotel, Dimitris Kosvogiannis, said what makes Melia Braco special is that it is far more than just “sand, sun, sea and people”.

“Service is a major part of what we do here and this we take very seriously. This award is really a team effort and I can’t find the right words to describe the quality people we have here at Melia Braco,” he said.

The General Manager pointed out that another high point of the resort is the cuisine, noting that “we have the highest food and beverage budget per guest on the island”.

Formerly Braco Village Hotel and Spa, the facility was reopened under the Melia Jamaica brand in 2014. The 226-room property, owned by the National Insurance Fund (NIF), is operated by Melia Hotels International.
