The Full Story

Local food manufacturer Honey Bun has expanded its operations with the opening of a new manufacturing facility at the MJS Industrial and Technology Park in Spanish Town, St. Catherine.

The 60,000-square-foot facility represents an investment of more than $1 billion and serves as the home of Honey Bun’s popular ‘Shorty Bread’ product line. The company’s other products continue to be manufactured at its Retirement Crescent location in Kingston.

Representatives of the Jamaica Manufacturers and Exporters Association (JMEA) hosted a tour of the new facility on Thursday (October 8), which was attended by Minister of Industry, Investment and Commerce, Senator the Hon. Aubyn Hill.

The visit formed part of activities marking Manufacturers’ Month 2026, being observed under the theme ‘Forged in Resilience: Accelerating Manufacturing and Export Excellence’.

In his remarks during the opening ceremony, Minister Hill underscored the importance of continued public-private sector collaboration in strengthening competitiveness, fostering investment and innovation, and creating new opportunities for Jamaican businesses in local and international markets.

He also reiterated the Government’s commitment to strengthening Jamaica’s manufacturing and export sectors.

Meanwhile, Senator Hill commended Honey Bun’s investment in solar technology to power its operations, noting that it contributes to the reduction of the country’s dependence on expensive imported fossil fuels.

Honey Bun Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Daniel Chong, said the company operates production lines across two facilities.

He noted that relocating the bread production line to the new facility in Spanish Town has enabled the company to expand its production capacity.

“This facility is an important part of our growth as a company and represents a significant investment in expanding our manufacturing capacity and creating room for future opportunities. We believe that companies like Honey Bun have an important role to play in growing Jamaica’s economy and, by investing locally, creating employment and supporting the communities in which we operate,” Mr. Chong said.

The company employs nearly 1,000 people across its operations.

In her remarks, JMEA President, Kathryn Silvera, congratulated the Honey Bun team on the milestone, noting that every expansion not only creates opportunities for Jamaican families but also generates economic activity for the many businesses that supply and support the manufacturing sector.

“For me, this is what Manufacturers’ Month is really about. It is about taking the time to recognise companies that are investing in Jamaica, creating jobs, building capacity, and showing us what is possible when Jamaican businesses think about the future. It is about creating the capacity to produce more, to innovate, to develop new products and to export more. Honey Bun is a wonderful example of that,” she said.
