The Jamaican High Commission in London will be hosting a garden party on October 6 to raise money for its Hurricane Relief Fund.
The Fund was launched by High Commissioner Burchell Whiteman in the wake of the hurricane on August 19, which caused severe damage to southern sections of the island.
The ‘After Hurricane Dean Garden Party’ will feature a range of Jamaican food, drink and entertainment.
Patrons have a chance to win spectacular prizes including airline tickets to Jamaica and luxury accommodation at some of the island’s top resorts including SuperClubs, Half Moon, Hedonism/Rooms, Couples and Sunset Jamaica Grande.
A well known Jamaican potter will also present a special piece of artwork for auction during the event.Chairman of the organising committee, Fay Richards, told JIS News that the committee was pleased with the response to the party.
“The High Commission’s staff felt that it was important that we did something to raise funds to help support those persons, especially the families who were affected by Hurricane Dean. We are also very pleased with the support we have been receiving from individuals, groups and the business community, who have been providing prizes and other tangible support for the fundraiser,” she said.
