The group consisted of 250 trainees from the Portmore HEART Academy; Lluidas Vale Vocational Training Centre; Rockfort Vocational Training Centre; Old Harbour Vocational Training Centre; and Enterprise Based-Training Department.
Deputy Chief Executive Officer at the Jamaica Teaching Council, Dr. Canute Thompson, encouraged the graduates to build on the skills they have acquired so that they can become the best in their respective fields.
“You can reshape your destiny, you can secure your place in a global economy if you are willing to build on the skill you have, if you are willing to increase your output for each hour of the day, and if you are willing to think of ways in which no one has done it before and do it that way, while creating a market for it,” he said.
Urging the graduates to be innovative in undertaking entrepreneurial ventures, noting that their success will depend not so much “on how well they are able to do what everybody else is doing but how well they can do what nobody else has done before”.
Dr. Thompson further commended the HEART Trust for ensuring that the graduates are trained and certified to international standards.
