The Hanover Parish Council has launched a special fund to raise money to finance the parish’s annual Christmas programme.
At the launch held at the October 9 meeting of the Parish Council, Mayor of Lucea, Councillor Lester Crooks, said the Council hoped to raise $1.2 million to stage a Christmas treat for children.
Already, a contribution of $21,000 has come from Jockey International, a garment manufacturing enterprise in Lucea, while Ralston Anson, Member of Parliament (MP) for Western Hanover and Barrington Gray, MP for Hanover Eastern, made pledges of$50, 000 each.
A special sub-committee has been established to oversee the co-ordination of the treat, and the yearly Christmas tree lighting ceremony. The committee, which is made up of representatives of civic groups along with personnel from the Parish Council, has as its goal, “bringing peace, goodwill and cheer to everyone within the parish, especially the children, for the Yuletide season”.
