Secretary/Manager of the Hanover Parish Council, Alfred Graham, is confident that arrangements for the 128th birthday anniversary tribute to National Hero, Right Excellent Sir Alexander Bustamante, will be successful.
In an interview with JIS News, following a meeting of the planning committee for the event in Lucea, Hanover, Wednesday (January 25), Mr. Graham noted that they have been meeting on a weekly basis and the plans “are falling nicely into place”.
The event will be staged at Blenheim, the birthplace of Sir Alexander, on Friday, February 24, his birthday. This year’s observation carries even more significance, as it forms part of the Jamaica 50 celebrations.
“Most major stakeholders in the parish have been participating at our weekly meetings and, so far, plans have been going pretty well,” he stated.
He said that concerns have been raised in the meetings about the condition of roads leading to Blenheim, as well as the water shortage in the area. He referred to a position paper which has been sent to the Parish Council seeking assistance in addressing the problems.
With a budget of a little over $700,000, Mr. Graham explained that several letters have been sent out to organizations and companies in the parish seeking additional support. He was confident that the support would be forthcoming.
He also pointed out that the format of the programme for the function has been changed, with a view to making the event more interesting than previously.
