Prime Minister, the Most Hon. Portia Simpson Miller, says a contract is to be signed early May for road improvement works in sections of Hanover.

“The National Works Agency (NWA) has advised me that plans are in place for some major road improvement works to be done in Riley Bridge to Dias, and Green Island to Santoy areas of the parish this year,” she said.

“The contractor has already been selected and the contract is be signed in the first week of May,” she added.

The Prime Minister was speaking at the official opening of the Hanover Co-operative Credit Union’s (HCCU) Enid Gonsalves Building yesterday (April 23), in Lucea.

She said the Government continues to explore opportunities that will spur investments in the parish to create jobs for residents.

“I know that there have been expressions of interest in transforming the empty factory spaces at Haughton Court here in Lucea and at Sandy Bay. You will hear more about those in due course,” she noted.

The opening of the HCCU’s building, named in honour of founder, the late Enid Gonsalves, was part of activities to celebrate the institution’s 40th anniversary.

The Prime Minister commended the credit union on its achievements over the years, and for “remaining connected with the community and the people of this town and this parish.”
