Gustav Relief Fund Gets Another Boost

The Gustav Relief Fund, got another boost recently with a donation of One Hundred Thousand Dollars ($100,000), made by the National Council of Indian Culture in Jamaica.
The presentation was made by Chairman of the Council, Mr. Vishwanauth Tolan, to Minister of State for Project Implementation and Service Delivery, Daryl Vaz who is co-ordinating the Gustav Relief Fund. Mr. Tolan said the Council was cognisant of the problems that the country has been experiencing since the passing of Tropical Storm Gustav and wanted to show its support by assisting as many Jamaicans as possible.
In thanking the Council for its contribution, Mr. Vaz said that with 378 households being destroyed during the passage of the storm, Government was helping those who were displaced, with the assistance of Food for the Poor, to get them back to reasonable living conditions.
The National Council for Indian Culture in Jamaica, is a non-profit organization, which seeks to preserve and promote Indian culture. It was formed in 1998 and consists of six Indian associations which promote various activities such as the famous Indian Roti Festival held annually.
The Council also has an education fund, through which it is able to assist over 170 primary and secondary school students islandwide with auxiliary fees, books and uniforms.
Participating in the recent presentation were Public Relations Officer, Nari Williams-Singh and Secretary of the National Council of Indian Culture in Jamaica, Sunetra Ramsingh.
