The Full Story

The top-performing boy and girl in the 2024 sitting of the Primary Exit Profile (PEP) examinations were, on Friday (August 23), celebrated by the Guardian Group.

Aiden Cummings from Liberty Academy, and Adrianna Cover from Mona Preparatory School in St. Andrew will begin new chapters in their academic journey at Ardenne High School and Campion College, respectively, come September.

They were awarded scholarships valued $1 million each during the Guardian Group’s 2024 Scholarship and Grant Awards Ceremony, at The Jamaica Pegasus hotel in New Kingston. The scholarships will span their five-year high-school tenure.

The top-performing children of policyholders and Guardian Life employees were also honoured during the ceremony.

Saige Brown secured the top-female policyholder scholarship, while Amir Francis received the male award.

In celebration of its 25th anniversary, Guardian also presented grants to top students of Duhaney Park, Alpha, Clan Carthy, and Edward Seaga Primary schools.

In her remarks, Minister of State in the Ministry of Education and Youth, Hon. Marsha Smith, lauded the Guardian Group Foundation for its unwavering commitment to supporting students through generous scholarships.

“The Guardian Group Foundation’s efforts extend beyond today’s ceremony. You have continued to assist with tuition and back-to-school supplies, and you have helped to ease the financial burden on many families across the island. This support is life-changing for the students who benefit, parents, communities and the entire Jamaica,” she said.

Ms. Smith added that this is the kind of public-private partnership that will drive the necessary transformation within the education sector.

The State Minister gave special commendation to the national top boy and girl, noting that their dedication and hard work have borne good fruit.

“The bridge between your goals and your accomplishments will ultimately come down to discipline. It is my prayer that as you embark on the seventh grade, that you will still walk that walk of discipline. It will serve you well,” Ms. Smith said.

For her part, Guardian Life Limited President, Meghon Miller Brown, said the entity has been steadfast in its commitment to empowering students.

“For 18 years, this ceremony has been a beacon of excellence, recognising those who have dared to work with focus, passion and determination. You did not just perform. You performed with purpose, and that is worth celebrating,” Mrs. Miller Brown said.

She encouraged the awardees to maintain the same purposeful mindset that has brought them to this point.

“I urge you to concentrate, not only on achieving individual success but on the lasting impact you can make in the lives of others. True success is measured, not by the milestones you reach, alone, but by the value you bring to your community and the positive change you inspire,” Mrs. Miller Brown stated.
