Greenhouse Gas Project Receives $25 Million

The country’s effort to develop a robust national greenhouse gas inventory is to be strengthened with the allocation of $25 million in the 2015/16 Estimates of Expenditure, now before the House of Representatives.

The project, which is being funded by the United States Agency for International Development, is slated to commence in April 2015.

Anticipated targets under the initiative dubbed, ‘Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Inventory and Sector Action Plan Project’, include procuring equipment and software, and implement training courses to enable the effective monitoring of Greenhouse Gases (GHGs) islandwide.

It will also see the training of officers of the Climate Change Division (CCD) and targeted Ministry, Department and Agencies (MDAs) in the development of climate change strategy and action plans; provide technical expertise to enable the revision and climate proofed National Forestry Management Plan, national energy action plan 2013-2016 and the national transport policy; and the hiring of an information technology consultant.

The project is being implemented by the Ministry of Water, Land, Environment and Climate Change and is slated for completion in March 2017.
