The Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture the Honourable Olivia Grange, MP has congratulated Veronica Campbell-Brown on being named Central American and Caribbean Female Athlete of the Year 2010.
The Jamaican athlete recorded world best times of 10.78 seconds in the 100m and 21.98 in the 200m – for which she was unbeaten all season.
Congratulating Mrs. Campbell-Brown, Minister Grange said:
“This is another outstanding achievement by Veronica and as a nation we are very proud. She is a hard worker. She is very dedicated; and always gives the impression that a moment for Veronica is a moment for Jamaica.
“This fine young lady is an inspiration to all and she continues to show with such brilliance, why we nominated and UNESCO selected her to be a UNESCO Champion for Sport.”
“I look forward to greater things in the coming year as she prepares to take on the 2011 season”.
Mrs. Campbell-Brown was appointed a UNESCO Champion for Sport in 2009. She was nominated by the Jamaica National Commission for UNESCO, an agency of the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture. The Commission is chaired by Minister Grange.
Mrs. Campbell-Brown was the first female athlete from the Americas to be nominated a UNESCO Champion for Sport.
