August 17, 2009

The Full Story

Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture, Hon. Olivia Grange, has hailed Jamaica’s female sprinters, as the nation took Gold and Silver in the women’s 100 metres at the 12th IAAF World Championships in Athletics, at the Olympic Stadium, in Berlin, Germany today (Aug. 17).
She described the performances of World Champion Shelly-Ann Fraser and runner-up Kerron Stewart as awesome and said she expected a steady run of medals as the week progresses.
Minister Grange was at track side to greet the athletes who were denied an opportunity to do a victory lap, as they were asked to leave the competition area at the end of the race.
The Minister arranged for Prime Minister the Hon. Bruce Golding, to speak to the athletes by phone.
She told the sprint queens she was extremely proud of their performances and said she expected no less.
World 100 metres Champion, Usain Bolt, will be back in action tomorrow morning (August 18), when he competes in the heats of the 200 metres.
