The Full Story

Minister of State in the Ministry of Labour and Social Security and Member of Parliament for St. Mary South Eastern, Dr. the Hon. Norman Dunn, says the Government remains steadfast in improving, rebuilding and enhancing healthcare facilities for Jamaicans.

This, he notes, is evident in his constituency, among other areas, where “we are witnessing a transformation in our healthcare landscape, which speaks volumes about our priorities and capabilities”.

Dr. Dunn was making his contribution to the 2024/25 State of the Constituency Debate in the House of Representatives on Tuesday (October 15).

He said the new paediatric ward at the Annotto Bay Hospital, which is outfitted with modern equipment to meet the medical needs of patients, is almost complete.

Dr. Dunn further informed that another new block, which will house the administrative division, orthopaedic ward and laboratory, is in its final stage of development.

Additionally, he said the Annotto Bay Health Centre has been renovated and reopened with significant upgrading, offering a more comfortable environment for clients.

Meanwhile, Dr. Dunn advised the House that the old Belfield Clinic, which had fallen into disrepair, has been demolished and a new structure is being built.

“[It] is fast becoming an iconic monument of major proportion in the Belfield Division, thanks to the Culture, Health, Arts, Sports and Education (CHASE) Fund, and the National Health Fund and Minister of Health and Wellness, Dr. the Hon. Christopher Tufton,” he stated.

Dr. Dunn said these advancements are not merely structural but symbolise the Government’s unwavering commitment to the health and well-being of Jamaicans.

“The visible progress in our health infrastructures is a testament to our vision and our actions. St. Mary, and St. Mary South Eastern in particular, is on a path to prosperity, with healthcare that not only heals but also instils hope and confidence in our future,” the State Minister added.
