Govt. providing 760 serviced lots in Westmoreland and St. James

KINGSTON — Cabinet has approved two contracts for infrastructure works for 760 lots in Whitehall III, Westmoreland and Latium Housing Development, St. James.
Minister with responsibility for Information, Telecommunication and Special Projects, Hon. Daryl Vaz made the disclosure don May 25 post-Cabinet press briefing at Jamaica House.
An award of $502 million has been made to Ashtrom Building Systems Limited to undertake infrastructure works for 576 lots at Whitehall III in Westmoreland.
Mr. Vaz said that the development is expected to contribute to the containment of the growing phenomenon of squatting by providing workers in the tourism sector with access to affordable and legal shelter options.
The Minister further noted that D.R. Foote Construction Company Limited will be undertaking infrastructure works at Latium Housing Development, St. James, at a cost of $358.8 million.
He said the overall development will comprise 183 housing solutions (serviced lots) and One commercial lot.
Meanwhile, Cabinet approved a $37.9 million contract to Contraxx Enterprises Limited to undertake road rehabilitation works on the Parottee rural feeder road in St. Elizabeth
“The road, which serves the community of Parottee, is deemed to be the evacuation route in emergency situations. However, the surface conditions have deteriorated due to successive hurricanes, exacerbated by subsequent heavy rainfall,” the Minister said.
