The Full Story

The Government is engaging Jamaica’s Overseas Missions in a series of high‑level meetings aimed at strengthening coordination and ensuring alignment with national policies and priorities.

These discussions include direct engagement with Prime Minister, Dr. the Most Hon. Andrew Holness, to further guide policy direction.

This was disclosed by Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Senator the Hon. Kamina Johnson Smith, during Wednesday’s (February 11) Post‑Cabinet Press Briefing at Jamaica House.

She noted that the sessions bring together Ambassadors, High Commissioners, and Consuls General from across Jamaica’s global network to review local and international developments and share operational best practices.

Senator Johnson Smith said the meetings and collaborations are being convened by the Ministry, “… to ensure that all our missions are being guided by the most current policies and data”.

The Minister emphasised that the engagements are intended to ensure Jamaica’s representatives abroad remain responsive to emerging global issues while effectively serving nationals within their respective jurisdictions.

Senator Johnson Smith stated that while the meetings are closed to facilitate frank exchanges on sensitive matters, they remain critical to maintaining a cohesive and responsive foreign service.

She further highlighted ongoing diaspora-related activities, including preparations for the Global Jamaica Diaspora Conference and elections for diaspora councils as key elements of Jamaica’s foreign-policy framework.
