The Full Story

Redevelopment of the St. James-based Cornwall Regional Hospital (CRH) is expected to be completed in the new fiscal year, through a $5-billion allocation from the Government.

Details are outlined in the 2026/2027 Estimates of Expenditure, which is before the House of Representatives.

The funds will be spent to continue civil works associated with Phase III of the project, achieving 95 completion; procure equipment, furniture and supplies; and revise training and maintenance policies and procedures to support the hospital’s efforts.

Phase III is at 67 per cent completion, with sectional handover of facilities already under way and renovation of the Administrative Department complete.

Significant work has been done under the project to date.

Up to the end of December 2025, roof repairs were completed; so, too, structural repairs to the basement and floors one to six and seven to nine, and water tanks were rehabilitated.

In addition, Phase III designs were completed, the equipment listing finalised and confirmed with the contractor and stakeholders.

Other achievements, to date, include 85 per cent completion of the medical records department; 80 per cent completion of the sewer room and general stores; 51 per cent renovation of the dietary department; and 60 per cent completion of tower floors four to 10.

The project aims to improve service delivery in the public health system by rehabilitating the CRH, including overhaul of the ventilation and air-conditioning systems; upgrading of mechanical, electrical, plumbing and information and communications technology (ICT) systems; and equipping the institution.
