Cabinet has approved the award of a contract valued US$415,527.32 to Abbott Rapid DX International Limited for the provision of 4,000 Determine HIV test kits for the National HIV/STI Programme.

The kits are expected to significantly bolster Jamaica’s ongoing fight against the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).

This was announced by Minister of Education, Youth and Information, Hon. Fayval Williams, during Wednesday’s (March 24) digital post-Cabinet press briefing.

Minister Williams also advised that Cabinet approved a contract in the sum of $76,384,187.90, being awarded to IMCA Jamaica Limited for the supply and delivery of one amphibious excavator for the National Irrigation Commission Limited.

She further informed that a contract valued $96,516,210 was approved and awarded to Champion Industrial Equipment and Supplies Limited for a new building pipeline distribution system for phase 4b of the Essex Valley Water Supply and Upgrade Project in St. Elizabeth;

Meanwhile, Bell Safety Limited has been awarded a contract in the amount of US$809,559.75 to supply 355 pieces of protective clothing to the Jamaica Fire Brigade.

Mrs. Williams said Cabinet also received and approved the annual reports and financial statements for several public bodies, for tabling in Parliament.

The entities are the National Irrigation Commission Limited for 2018; SCJ Holdings Limited for the periods ended September 2011 and March 2012; and the National Family Planning Board (NFPB) – 2018/2019.
