The Full Story

Dean of the School of Graduate Studies at Northern Caribbean University (NCU), Dr. Gosnell Yorke, said that Dr. Patrick Allen’s strong Christian background makes him the ideal candidate to be the country’s head of state.
Dr. Yorke, who spoke to JIS News in a recent interview, said that Dr. Allen is well suited for the job, as he is “a good servant leader. Dr. Allen is groomed in servant leadership and he will be executing his role in a healing and wholesome way.”
The NCU Dean said that his pleasure at Dr. Allen’s appointment comes not because like himself, he is an Adventist, but because he upholds the values and moral teachings of God.
“It is an affirmation of the role of the Christian church in the nation as a development agent, that one of us could be seen as worthy for such an honour, and he (Dr. Allen) is ably prepared for such a job,” he stated.
Officials of the Adventist educational institution based in Mandeville, Manchester, have expressed pleasure at the Prime Minister’s recent announcement that their board chairman, will be appointed the country’s next Governor-General.
“I am elated about his appointment to such an office. I think he will do an excellent job as typified by his leadership as president of the West Indies Union, and Chairman of the university board,” said Donald English, President of the United Student Movement at NCU.
He stated that Dr. Allen is an educated and devoted Christian, “who will follow God’s leading in carrying out his duties.”
Dr. Patrick Allen, who will be Jamaica’s sixth Governor-General since Independence in 1962, will take office on February 26. He will succeed His Excellency the Most Hon. Professor Sir Kenneth Hall, who is demitting office due to ill health.
