The Port Antonio hospital has received high commendation from Governor- General, His Excellency, the Most Hon. Sir Patrick Allen, for the outstanding quality of health care it is delivering to the residents of Portland and its environs.
Sir Patrick, who visited the facility on Wednesday (December 15), said the hospital has been providing very good care despite limited resources and other challenges. He praised the professionalism and caring attitude displayed by the staff, noting that it is that kind of commitment to duty that has enabled Jamaica’s health service to be so highly regarded in the global community.
Sir Patrick appealed to the citizens to support the hospital, noting that “the health of the parish is the wealth of the parish.”

During the visit, the Governor-General also handed over medical supplies to the hospital and a certificate of appreciation in recognition of the committed service it has been providing to the Jamaican people.
The Governor-General, who was accompanied by Her Excellency Lady Allen, visited the hospital’s accident and emergency department, the maternity wards, the children’s ward and the medical and surgical wards.
The visit was part of the Governor-General annual tour of hospitals across the island during the yuletide season, to bring cheer to patients and staff and show appreciation for the work of the country’s health workers.
