Fifty breathalysers valued at over $3 million have been donated to the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) to support the work of law enforcement in catching motorists driving under the Influence (DUI) of alcohol.
The donation, made by Red Stripe through its Desnoes and Geddes Foundation, will be utilised by the JCF’s Public Safety and Traffic Enforcement Branch.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Gary McKenzie, said the breathalysers will support road safety efforts.
“If you are driving at excessive speed a breath test could be requested. We have done some 12,000 plus breathalysers this year and we aim to do much more,” he said.
ACP McKenzie was speaking at a recent road safety town hall at Red Stripe’s Spanish Town Road headquarters in Kingston.
He said that the police will request a breath test where the driver is involved in a crash or is suspected to be under the influence of alcohol based on the manner of driving.
He noted that driving under the influence causes impaired eyesight or judgement, which can result in crashes.
Red Stripe has also partnered with three rideshare companies for one year commencing in December. They are Voy-JA (Owtings Jamacia Tours Limited), Quick Ride, and Travelr Taxi.
Under the agreement, Red Stripe will promote the companies as ‘get home responsibly’ partners and offer giveaways to and from Red Stripe-sponsored events.
The rideshare companies, in return, will offer discounts and free rides and participate in Red Stripe giveaways on their platforms.
