The new Government of Jamaica has completed three days of intensive review of existing plans and programmes of Ministries, Departments and Agencies.

The Cabinet further refined its new plans and programmes and gave direction to the Ministries, Departments, and Agencies, as to priorities and strategies for implementation.

The Cabinet considered presentations from the Ministry of Finance, the Central Bank, and PIOJ. The fiscal programmes, i.e. projected revenues, and expenditure and reforms of the tax system, including the raising of the personal income tax threshold, are being considered in preparation for the tabling of the budget in the next 14 days.

The Prime Minister in commenting on the progress of the 3 days of consultations said “I am encouraged by the dedication and energy of my Ministers in marshaling their ministries and subject areas. This gives me great confidence that they will be agile in implementation and detailed in the supervision of plans and programmes of the government.”

On the matter of the committed tax threshold increase, the Prime Minister said “we are on track and it will fully be addressed in the presentation of the budget”.
