Motorists will have free access to the East-West and North-South toll highways from 6:00 p.m. to midnight on Tuesday (July 2).
Prime Minister, the Most Hon. Andrew Holness, made the disclosure in a National Broadcast on Hurricane Beryl on Tuesday.
“This is to ensure that all Jamaicans who are currently on the road are able to get home safely and conveniently,” Mr. Holness said.
The toll-free travel will help to alleviate congestion on the roadways and assist Jamaicans carrying out last minute preparations for the hurricane, which is expected to impact the island on Wednesday (July 3).
A Ministerial Order to give effect to the arrangement was made by the Ministry of Science, Energy, Telecommunications and Transport, and the Toll Authority
Prime Minister Holness said the Government will continue to monitor the developments and provide regular updates.
“The entire Government and all relevant personnel are in a state of readiness to manage the disaster. The Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM) is leading the national disaster response. The National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) has been activated and all relevant agencies are on high alert,” he informed.
