Former Prime Ministers, the Most Hon. PJ Patterson and the Most Hon. Edward Seaga have offered their assistance to the Government in response to the Haitian earthquake.
In a letter addressed to Prime Minister the Hon. Bruce Golding and Opposition Leader the Most Hon. Portia Simpson Miller, the former leaders expressed support for the Government’s move to offer immediate assistance to Haiti and said they are willing to make their experience and service available. The letter read:
“Yesterday’s devastating earthquake in our neighbouring country has created a catastrophe of unprecedented dimensions.
“Jamaica is obliged to extend the most urgent and meaningful response to the emergency and rescue imperatives. The subsequent process for rehabilitation and recovery of our sister nation must receive our full support.
“In fully endorsing your mutual commitment to mobilising a totally united response from Jamaica, we wish to express our determination to make our experiences and services available.
“We will also be advising the CARICOM Secretariat accordingly”.
