Forensic Audit of NSWMA Next Week

The Full Story

A audit into the operations of the National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA) is to commence next week Tuesday (January 24).

This was announced by Minister of Local Government and Community Development, Hon. Noel Arscot, at a press conference at the NSWMA, Kingston, on Wednesday (January 18).

"I have charged the audit team to ensure that a thorough and accurate audit be done, in as short a time as possible because, at the end of the day, we need to give account for what has happened," he said.

The audit follows a mysterious fire which occurred at the NSWMA's Half-Way Tree Road head office, in December, during which numerous documents were destroyed.

The Minister used the opportunity to urge the managers to ensure that all relevant documents are "secured", as they will be critical to the investigations.

He noted that some of the documents from the NSWMA that were soaked when the fire department tried to put out the blaze were still being "dried out". He said these documents will be needed by the audit team to do their necessary perusal.

The NSWMA seeks to ensure an efficient and effective collection, disposal and management of solid waste.
