All five websites which are hosted by the Jamaica Information Service (JIS) have been successfully restored.

This was done before 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, after the JIS and five websites were attacked by “hactivists” between 9:00 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. on Monday, June 22.  The JIS website was restored within four hours of the attack.

The websites defaced were the CHASE Fund, GC Foster College, Social Development Commission, Houses of Parliament and the Jamaica National Commission for UNESCO.

Preliminary findings revealed that the attempts of the “hactivists” at breaching the system did not result in access to sensitive information, but was constrained to “surface defacement.”  The Agency is confirming that no data was corrupted.

Cybersecurity teams from the Jamaica Constabulary Force and the Technology Ministry assisted the JIS web team to identify the source and cause of the breach.

The team said that it has seen a number of activities from more than 500 blacklisted IP addresses used by cyber terrorists. They span several countries and took place within an hour.
