The Full Story

The Jamaica Fire Brigade (JFB) has postponed all activities planned for Fire and Life Safety Awareness Week 2025 due to Tropical Storm Melissa.

The week was originally planned for Sunday, October 26 to Saturday, November 1, under the theme: ‘Safe Homes, Safe Communities: The Power of Prevention’.

JFB Commissioner, Stewart Beckford, told JIS News that a new date will be announced as soon as possible.

“We are looking at the following week, and we will make a determination as soon as the system has passed and the assessment has been done in terms of the gravity of the damage and how quickly we can mobilise and get going again,” he said.

In the meantime, citizens are being encouraged to say informed about Tropical Storm Melissa through official channels.

Persons are advised to avoid crossing flooded roadways or waterways, secure loose items around homes and workplaces, keep emergency supplies, flashlights and batteries ready, and have contact numbers for the nearest fire station and emergency services readily available.
