Finance Ministry Clarifies Late Payment of Salaries

The Ministry of Finance and Planning wishes to advise that the delayed payment of salaries to Teachers, Education Officers and the Police was due to problems experienced in the banking operation at a local bank and not the Central Treasury Management System (CTMS) as was reported in the media.

The bank has promised that with the restoration of their system, all remaining public officers should be paid on Friday, April 26.

The Central Treasury Management System (CTMS) is a key pillar of the Government’s Fiscal Reform Programme, which will move the Government towards increased efficiency in financial management within the public sector.

CTMS was implemented in the Ministry of Finance and Planning in November 2012 and is currently being rolled out in other Ministries and Department.

All Ministries, Departments and Agencies are expected to be on the system by March 2014.
