The Full Story

The Financial Investigations Division (FID) is ramping up its effort to combat financial crimes as it seeks to fill 117 new positions.

The FID is a department of Government and is the only law-enforcement body within the Ministry of Finance and the Public Service.

Speaking recently with JIS News, Brand Communications Specialist at the FID, Garth Williams, indicated that the organisation has a greater workload and will need new staff to carry out its mandate.

“The FID is a department of Government. We’ve been assigned that designation since April of 2023. As a result, it’s a greater workload, more responsibilities and because of that, we need greater staff. We’re looking to expand our staff significantly. We’re looking to fill a total of about 197 posts, and we now have about 80, so we do have a mountain to climb,” Mr. Williams said.

He continued that there are several employment opportunities within the FID for qualified professionals.

“We’re talking about people who have special skills in accounting, auditing, forensic examination, financial investigations, and we are looking at people in the legal sector. We’re looking at people who specialise in customer service. We’ve also got openings and vacancies in ICT and conveyancing,” Mr. Williams said.

“We’re talking about legal, but conveyancing, because we’ve got a lot of properties and assets that have been forfeited that we need to dispose of, and we need the help. We’ve got lots of cases to prosecute as well. So, we certainly need more legal professionals,” he added.

Mr. Williams also indicated that the FID’s recruitment drive is ongoing, as they are currently onboarding some new members of staff.

Attractive job options are also available at the institution for persons who are members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF).

“If you are in the Jamaica Constabulary Force or have an interest in law enforcement, you can reach out to us because we have the Constabulary Financial Unit, which features officers from

CTOC who are trained in financial investigation and they’re seconded to the FID. So, that’s a different way to go about your law-enforcement journey,” said Mr. Williams.

Advertisements for the vacancies can be found on the website of the Office of the Services Commission at www.osc.gov.jm.

Persons can also contact the FID at (876) 928-5141 to find out more about the jobs available.
