The Full Story

Ten finalists in the Jamaica Festival Song Competition 2024 will compete at the results show, scheduled to take place at the Jamaica College auditorium, 189 Hope Road, Kingston, on Saturday, July 13, beginning at 8:30 p.m.

The show is free and open to the public.

The finalists are Auraiya Hope (Proud Jamaican), Sister Novelette (Fi Mi Island Home), TrishMaq (Jamaica is a Big Brand), Kamiela “Candy” Isaacs (#One Jamaica), Trisstar (Jamaica Jamaica), Pepita (We are Jamaicans), Lex MD (Jah Love this Land), Renzzah (Waa Back Jamaica), Reggae Maxx (Better Jamaica) and Casey Donaldson (Sweet Jamaica).

More than $3 million in cash and prizes will be awarded to the winner of the competition, who will also earn the prestigious title of the 2024 Jamaica Festival Song Winner.

Organised by the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC), the competition, a flagship programme for Jamaica’s annual Independence celebrations, will showcase the musical talents of both professional and aspiring artistes, songwriters and producers.

Director of Production and Events Management, JCDC, Gregory Simms, told JIS News that the Commission is looking forward to announcing the Festival Song winner for the country’s 62nd Independence celebrations.

“We are inviting everybody to come on out and to celebrate resilience and strength and creativity after a hurricane as we select and announce the Jamaica Festival Song for our Jamaica 62 Independence celebrations,” he said.

“We are ready. We are excited. The theme is ‘Jamaica 62: One Love to the World’, and especially in these times it is important for us to pause and celebrate our strengths and resilience and to recognise how far we have come as a people,” he said.

This year, Jamaica is commemorating its 62nd anniversary of Independence, having achieved Independence on August 6, 1962.

“We have overcome many obstacles before, and one thing about Jamaicans we keep things moving, and that is what this celebration is all about,” Mr. Simms said.

He explained that the winner of the contest will be determined by a combination of the verdict of a panel of Judges and public voting, which began after a Live presentation show held on Television Jamaica on Thursday, June 27, 2024.

Voting will close on the evening of the Festival Song show, on Saturday, July 13.

The Production Director said that the song writer, the performer and the producer will be awarded prizes totalling $3 million.

“A song cannot exist by itself. So, the writer will get a million, the performer gets a million and the producer gets another million, and if the one person is all three, then that person gets the full amount of $3 million,” he added.
