In his remarks, Minister of Science, Energy, Telecommunications and Transport, Hon. Daryl Vaz, said the young scholars demonstrated extraordinary dedication and aptitude in the recent PEP examinations.

“Petrojam’s PEP scholarship programme has been more than just a financial [aid]; it is a testament to our belief in the power of education and the potential of our youth,” he stated.

The Minister noted that the scholarship is designed to provide a pathway to students from neighbouring communities, thereby ensuring they have opportunities to achieve their fullest potential.

“It is a proud embodiment of Petrojam’s commitment to educational development and community support. The scholarships awarded cover, not just tuition but also books and other essential supplies for the next five years. This support seeks to alleviate the financial burden and allow our scholars to focus entirely on their studies and personal growth,” Mr. Vaz said.

Meanwhile, Petrojam General Manager, Telroy Morgan, said the scholarship programme has been in place for 18 years.

“Since 2006, this programme has been the cornerstone of our corporate social responsibility,” he stated, adding that education is just one way of Petrojam supporting the development of the community.

He noted that the entity’s corporate social responsibility also targets health, environment, community development and sports.

“Congratulations to our scholarship recipients. Your dedication [and] your perseverance [have] brought you to this moment, and we are particularly proud of what you have achieved today, and [will attain] going forward,” Mr. Morgan said.

Since 2006, Petrojam’s scholarship programme has benefited more than 50 students, with investments totalling more than $50 million towards their educational development.

Students are assigned a mentor and attend the company’s homework centre twice weekly.

The centre is staffed with trained teachers and is equipped with computers and printer for students.
