The Jamaica Promotions Corporation (JAMPRO), through its European Office, is on a mission to showcase Jamaica as a top destination for investments, trade deals and business ventures.
Located in the bustling city of London, the office stands out as a beacon of collaboration, innovation and progress, calling out to investors, traders and businesses to explore the myriad opportunities in Jamaica.
“Our office plays a crucial role in attracting Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) from Europe, helping Jamaican exporters break into European markets, and fostering strong business ties between Jamaica and our European partners,” Manager, Laurence Jones, tells JIS News.
The office is focused on investment in key sectors such as manufacturing, agribusiness, energy, tourism, and logistics.
Mr. Jones says several “high-value” projects have been facilitated in tourism, such as the Spanish-owned H10 Hotel and Princess Resort.
“But one project close to my heart is the Zierlich Dialysis Centre in Montego Bay, championed by two young healthcare professionals from the Jamaican diaspora in England. It symbolises our collective effort towards Jamaica’s progress,” he notes.
Mr. Jones says focus is being placed on partnerships in high-value manufacturing, agro-processing and sustainable farming, and expanding exports in various sectors that drive economic growth and development.
Looking ahead, he says that JAMPRO’s collaboration with the International Trade Centre will opens doors for Jamaican digital service firms to connect with European buyers, ushering in a new era of digital commerce and connectivity.
Excitingly, plans are under way to introduce shore power systems at Jamaica’s major ports through an investment project by a European company, promising significant environmental and economic benefits for the island and its people.
For European businesses eyeing opportunities in the island, Mr. Jones notes that “Jamaica’s prime location as a gateway to the Americas positions it as a safe haven for European businesses looking to expand their reach across the Western Hemisphere.”
He also praises Jamaica’s dynamic workforce, secure legal framework, and investment-friendly environment.
“We actively educate investors through targeted marketing, provide transparent information on regulatory requirements, and offer hands-on support throughout the investment journey,” he adds.
The country’s stable political climate is also an asset.
“We uphold the rule of law, and any commercial disputes can be settled through the Privy Council in London, ensuring a fair and just process,” Mr. Jones notes further.
