More than 150 children from communities in Sligoville, St. Catherine, were treated to a day of fun and activities, including the donation of school supplies by the We Blossom Foundation Inc. charity.

At a recent family fun day held at Mary Village, the children were presented with school bags, books, pencils, crayons, markers and other items. They were also gifted with toys while enjoying treats such as ice cream, popcorn, rides and a bounce house.

Parent Gregg James said the presentation of the school supplies was timely as students prepare to return to school in January.

“I want to say a big thank you to the Blossom Foundation. They did an exceptional job,” he told JIS News.

Another parent, Kemona Francis, welcomed the fun day, noting that the event was filled with enjoyment for both adults and children.

“There was hot dog, ice cream, and so forth for the kids, popcorn, jerk chicken and soup. It was a good thing in the community,” she said, while Therasa Douglas added that her daughter enjoyed the day’s activities.

Principal of the Sligoville Basic School, Kerry-Ann Fraser-Thomas, welcomed the treat for the children, particularly as the usual Christmas class parties were cancelled this year due to Hurricane Melissa.

“The gifts were very good because they got educational items that they can take to school when it reopens. Thanks to the Blossom Foundation, and I hope that they continue. We really appreciate what they have done,” she said.

Director with the Foundation, Denise Gayle, told JIS News the day’s activities were aimed at uplifting the community, particularly the children.

“They deserve joy and fun. It was like happiness. Everybody was enjoying themselves, and it was a great atmosphere,” she said.
