The Full Story

Prime Minister, the Most Hon. Andrew Holness, says that every Jamaican has a personal duty and responsibility to follow the health and safety measures so that the country can return to normalcy.

He said that the Government is supporting the return to regular operations for all sectors but pointed out that “this must be done with the maintenance of the protocols set down in the Disaster Risk Management Act (DRMA)”.

The Prime Minister said that while the sacrifices made over the past months have resulted in a reduction in the number of positive coronavirus (COVID) cases “we are not yet out of danger.”

“We understand the frustrations… but the public health science is clear on why we have had to take the measures that we have had to take,” he noted.

Mr. Holness said he is fully vaccinated, but has chosen to continue to wear a mask in keeping with the health and safety measures, and is urging every Jamaican to also wear a mask, social distance, sanitise regularly, and limit movement.

“These very simple measures have worked and will work to return us to normalcy,” he stressed.

The Prime Minister further appealed for persons to take the vaccine, noting that “it is absolutely important.”

“We have seen the vaccine at work and we urge you to participate in the national programme and get vaccinated when your time comes,” he said.
