Member of Parliament for South West St. Catherine, Everald Warmington, has been appointed as State Minister with responsibility for Works in the Office of the Prime Minister.

In his address at the swearing-in ceremony held this morning (April 13) at King’s House, Prime Minister, the Most Hon. Andrew Holness, expressed confidence that Mr. Warmington will serve the country with distinction.

“In all my interactions with you, you are a hard and dedicated worker who means well for Jamaica,” he said.

The Prime Minister reminded Mr. Warmington that “as a Parliamentarian, you are a representative of the people, but as Minister, you have a higher duty of service and that means humility, respectfulness, honesty and integrity….it is a general theme that I expect of the Government that I lead. It goes for everyone who bears the title Honourable Minister.”

Governor-General, His Excellency the Most Hon. Sir Patrick Allen, in his address, said that Mr. Warmington had been called to serve at a time when Jamaica is looking for transformational leadership.

“This awesome responsibility is being given to you and you are going to be a builder in this position…I would hope that you would draw from the broad spectrum of your experience because…you are not a neophyte in Parliament, having entered from way back in the 80s,” he said.

Speaking to JIS News after the ceremony, Mr. Warmington pledged to work diligently to fulfill his responsibilities.

“I’ve been called upon and I have to step up to the task and do my best for the people of Jamaica…I am looking forward to doing a very good job to make the Prime Minister and Jamaica proud,” he said.

Mr. Warmington is the fifth Minister of State to be sworn into office.
